As well as core activities such as the radiological and surveying surveys, Fathoms undertakes projects that cross disciplines in the maritime field.

Perhaps one of the most challenging aspects of this is in regard to legal disputes. Fathoms’ Managing Director, Matthew French, is a Cardiff University accredited Expert Witness. He has recently provided maritime expert witness services on a number of occasions centred around the field of hydrography. Legal clients welcome the fact that Fathoms is fundamentally a contracting company and therefore current with the latest techniques and equipment as well as the more traditional methods.

Many marine projects require expertise in a large number of fields. For example the construction of a new berth may include:

-          An Environmental Impact Assessment, with tide analysis, habitat mapping, etc.
-          Historical desk study, previous usage, etc.
-          Dredging consultancy, dispersal studies.
-          Marine documents, dredging licences, etc.
-          Soil investigations.
-          Bathymetric survey, volume calculations.
-          Sidescan and Magnetometry Survey.
-          Wreck or debris recovery
-          Sub-bottom Profiling and/or Geophysical survey.
-          Topographic Survey.
-          Presentation & Reporting.

It is far more efficient and therefore more cost effective to employ a single company such as Fathoms, who can assist in all of the phases towards project completion.
